Most Cherished Memories

Which cherished memories of our society would you like to give Jonas? Think of special moments and emotions that Jonas´community doesn´t have but you consider worth experiencing.

READING FICTION.

     A cosy silent place. Your muscles are relaxed, and your body is at rest. Your imagination soars. Your mind is no longer in that room but in the world of the story. You follow the characters to their adventures and you experience their emotions as if they were your own, You lose track of time,
      The experience is similar to what you feel at your training sessions, Jonas, when the Giver shares his memories with you, but without any physical pain. You can travel to far away lands or nonexistent places and live many adventures from the safety of the comfortable couch of your living room, and with the certainty that you will come back safe and sound.
      Like your training, it also helps you acquire wisdom. It allows you to explore different points of view and learn about different lifestyles, and you become more sympathetic and perceptive in the process.

LISTENING TO MUSIC

Listening to music is the most relaxed, calm, pleasurable, delightful, peaceful, halcyon, harmonious, tranquil, satisfying and joyful activity you have ever imagined in your whole life. The sound of rhythm, the mix of melodies gives you a feeling of happiness and joy. You start dancing, moving your body to the mix of sounds. You only pay attention to the song´s melody and there is when you reach the peak of satisfaction. Your imagination flies. You follow every single part of the song and mainly the lyrics. You also start to sing with enthusiasm as if you were alone and nobody can see you. You start, continue and continue, and never want to stop. You lose track of time.

The experience is similar to the one in the Annex room, with the Giver, where he passes all his memories with a hand touch, Jonas. Except here you only enjoy, you do not feel pain or sadness. You can travel anywhere you want with music, without really going there. You can experience anything you want, as you do with the Giver. The most important thing at the time of listening to music is that you are free, you can express your emotions or feelings freely and no one can judge you. With music you can even change a person morally and emotionally. Music is power, a power that can be controlled and does not harm anyone. It is the best power you can have and you can only use it for good purposes. 

Music is the best thing that can happen to you, you can experience all kind of new things. So Jonas, I recommend you to ask the Giver to give this memory to you and you will feel as you never did.

HAVING A DOG

Dear Jonas,

I want to transmit you the memory of having a dog.

The pleasure of having a dog is immense. Dogs may help you in many ways, for example, protecting your house, because they would do whatever to get their owners safe. They can act like an alarm and wake you up in the morning. We -and they- feel that they are like one more brother. They wait long hours only to jump to receive their owner when he comes back. When you have had a bad day, they will make all you uncomfort change to happiness. You can also play and have a lot of fun with them.

And the last thing I want to tell you is:

• Dogs do whatever, without asking for something in return.
• They don’t know how to hate.
• They understand without words.
• Their look is pure like their soul.
• They don’t know envy or resentment.
• Forgiveness is natural on them.
• They don’t lie.
  Because of these and because thousands of things more, dogs deserve our love.

HAVING A CAT
Jonas,
When my pet was brought to my house for the first time, I was very excited! This means that I was full of happiness! I couldn't stop smiling! My cat is beautiful! You probably are thinking this.. What is a cat? Well! I'm going to explain it to you! A cat is a creature that provides company. You have it in your house and you take care of her. For me my cat is part of my family, She is always with me, in the bad and the good moments, you can't have a conversation with a cat because she is an animal, she doesn't talk but I always talk with her!
The first night that my cat was in my house she slept with me, because she was little and she would probably feel strange in a place that she didn't know. I love playing with my cat! Sometimes I call her "cuchi cuchi" (which is like a nickname).
Having an animal in your family is amazing! For example the other day my mom was at the shopping (a place where you buy things) and I felt sad because I was alone, so there I remembered that "CATA" my cat, was downstairs, so I went with my pet and we played until my mom came.
This is cata!

SIBLING´S LOVE

My favorite experience is when one of my little brothers told me that he loved me. He is called Benjamin. Benja is 1 year old, he was born on the 9th of november, 2013. I was in my house having tea when my phone rang, (a phone is an electronic device to communicate with your friends, family or anyone that you want, you also can take photos, record videos, download apps to play games or to edit your pics. ) Well, coming back to what I was telling to you... My phone rang and when I unlocked it, I had a message from Laura, the person who takes care of my brother. Laura had sent me a video and in the video my brother said "Guada, I love you" Guada is me! I felt very hapy! I had a mix of emotions!

CHILDREN´S DAY

Jonas, today we`ll see what children`s day was. Children`s day was a day where all children received gifts and presents from their parents to show their love to them. This day, every child was happy and excited because they did not know what they would find inside the gift box, so, it was a complete surprise.

Families would get together in a house and celebrate that special date. They would eat a barbecue, which consists mainly of grilled meat. Sometimes they made special desserts such as cakes, brownies or cookies. These had a pleasant taste, and were much sweeter than the apples which you are used to eating.

I guess children’s day was removed from your community because it promoted celebrating children as individuals, and taking into account their different likes whereas the Commitee of Elders believe in giving everybody the same, so as to avoid feelings like jealousy.

In one way this removing was pretty dumb, because all the happy and exciting feelings were gone. But, in another way, it was good to remove it because children understand they are part of a community where everybody receives exactly the same.

So Jonas, I hope you have you learned something with this memory.

ROLLER SKATING COMPETITION

One day, when I was 6 years old, I was on a roller skate tournament. Roller skate is a sport and a sport is a physical activity, and sometimes you compete to see who is the best at it.

It was a very important day for me because it was the first time I had competed. I had a lot of make-up and a hair-style. It was my turn so I went to the rink and started my choreography, and suddenly I started to cry. My mom and my teacher wanted me to get out of the rink but I didn´t pay attention so I continued. I wasn’t crying because I was sad, I was crying of happiness. It was fabulous to see all those people watching me. When I finished, the judges gave me some toys and then I had to wait for 2 hour to know the results. Meanwhile, I watched other older girls competing and they were pretty good.

In the end, I was happy because I got the 3rd place and I was given a trophy.

SOCCER MATCH

Jonas I am going to pass you my most wonderful memory: the day my soccer team won the championship.In my country, soccer is a sport,and there are different teams. A team is a group of people who play together. Mine won the championship the 13th of December of 2009. I was the happiest girl in the world. When the match finished, I could not believe it, we were the champions!! I felt a mixture of feelings. I was proud,amazed,SUPER happy and again I could not believe it. There were fireworks,balloons ,flags,and people singing and crying because there were proud of their team.

It is an unforgettable memory.

PLAYING THE GUITAR

It's really dark and many people are expecting me. I'm back here waiting for the black man to call me to come to the front. I'm really anxious!

Oh it's time to go! Now I'm playing my guitar passionately. it's really amazing. I'm making music!

This wooden object with strings is really magical. My left hand fingers are hurting a little bit, but I don't care . My right hand is moving upside down. It's incredible! The right part of the guitar makes sound, this feels like a spell.

 WINTER 

Hi Jonas! I am going to transmit you the memory of winter. Do you remember your memories of the hill that was covered with snow? That season is called winter. A season is a three-month period. The winter season is the opposite of your sun memories. It is a season that is very cold, but also very beautiful. The trees don’t have leaves and the streets are full of snow. We enjoy being indoors, drinking tea or hot chocolate near the fire. Most children love winter because they can make snowmen and ski. It is a lovely time of the year.

BUYING A BOOK.

On Saturday I went to the Boulevard shopping centre with my mom and my grandma. I was very happy. (A shopping centre is a big place which is full of shops, where you can buy what you want) The most exciting thing was that I was going to buy a book that I've been waiting for almost a year. We spent all the afternoon buying stuff and presents when finally, at the end we went to the bookshop. I was so scared and feeling so anxious... What if the book wasn't there? So I entered and asked the shop assisstant if they had the book. She told me they didn't, so, my face turned from happiness and excitement to dissapointment. Suddenly my instinct told me to turn my face to the left and... there it was!!! THE BOOK! I was feeling very happy! My mother gave it to me as a gift. My mom gave it to me on Saturday and now. on Thursday the 29TH I'm almost finishing the book. It was the best day of my life.

HAVING A BROTHER

My favorite memory is when I really became the elder sister, the 27th of September 2005.

I started feeling love for my brother when he was on my mother’s womb, so I had been expecting him for 9 long months. (In my society there are no assignment as birthmothers. Every woman is able to bear a child)

I was 3 years old but I can remember the first time I saw him, an hour after he was born, he was so adorable...I was very excited. I wanted a brother to dress him like a Prince.

I get on well with him because he has my same genes, something that doesn´t happen in your community, Jonas. This means we are similar in many aspects. We have the same sense of humor so we have great talks and we enjoy the same things!

When I look at him I can see how much it looks like my parents and even like me.

I expect to continue having a nice relationship with him all my life, I hope to have a nephew or a nice that are going to be my son’s or my daughter’s cousins. My parents are going to became grandparents, and we are going to be a great family!

I enjoy having a brother, and I love him!

THE DAY I GOT MY DOG

I was 11 years old. I was on Loli´s house, Loli is my best friend. We were playing hide and seek. ( This game is very interesting! You have to hide while your partner counts up to the number you decide. When he or she finishes, he/she has to search you. )
While I was counting, she hid a dog in the closet. (A dog is an animal. It belongs to a different species, and it has different abilities, a different aspect and different habits from humans. A dog is an animal with 4 legs, 2 ears, 1 tail, a face with a muzzle.  They don´t talk, they bark, and they don´t do the same things as humans do. They obey what humans say.)

 Well, it was my turn to search my friend and I heard noises in the closet.  When I opened the door of the closet, I saw a beautiful dog and Loli told me that it was for me! so I started crying because I was so happy! The best word to describe that moment is the word "excited", which means that I was very happy, as if a bomb of emotions had exploded in my body. Now my dog is 2 years old and he is called Ale! I love him so much...

THE DAY I GOT MY DOG (II)

I had been asking for a little puppy for a lot of months. I was only three years old, and although I loved our German shepherd, Antonio, I couldn´t pick him up in my arms as he was very heavy for me. That´s why every day I asked my parents if I could have a little dog. They kept saying that it wasn´t possible, but the day of my fourth birthday, when they came to pick me at school, we went to a pet shop. They had bought a little poodle. He was so cute and tender! I felt so excited and happy, that I couldn´t even speak. I was literally speechless. When we came home and I saw that Antonio received him with all his kindness I felt even more thankful to my parents.
